SAT Prep with WhizKidz Tutoring

SAT Prep

Sundays, 12:00–2:30 pm, November 6–February 5, 2023

Join us for an 11-week, in-person SAT Prep course with WhizKidz Tutoring to prepare for the March and May 2023 exams. The course will be offered here at Shames JCC on Sundays from November 6th–February 12th from 12:00–2:30 pm. An optional writing workshop will be offered on March 5 for those taking the writing portion of the exam.

Class will not meet on the dates 12/25, 1/1, 1/29; in the event of inclement weather,  there will be a make-up class on 2/12.

The SAT course will focus on math, reading, vocabulary, and writing and offers practice in taking the SAT test, strategies for the various question types, and small group instruction. WhizKidz’s curriculum was created using a variety of programs including Panda Math, Pearson, and Barton. Assessments will be given during the beginning and middle of the course to ensure students are hitting benchmarks for desired scores.

Weekly assignments will be provided for students to complete at home during the week. At-home assignments can be completed on paper or on a computer.

The Reading Section for the SAT requires students to answer evidence-based questions about a challenging reading selection in a timed setting. The course will prepare and practice for these reading passages and questions.

Instructors will focus on the types of math questions asked on the SAT test and how to avoid common mistakes. Students will be split into small groups to go over math material they have not yet mastered.

An optional 1-day essay workshop will be given on 3/5 to students who are taking the essay portion of the exam. The goal of the workshop is to help students learn to plan and respond in writing quickly, focusing on discussing and practicing writing literary and rhetorical analysis.
