This inclusive class for elementary-aged students with varying abilities is designed and taught by Kit Demirdelen, a teaching artist and art therapist in the lower Hudson Valley. The class focuses on the process of art-making as a sensorial, creative and productive experience. We will use a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional materials to complete projects that all children can feel proud of. It is led by an art therapist who has experience working with children with a wide range of emotional, cognitive and physical abilities. There will be a combination of daily activities, and some projects that develop over the course of a few weeks.
About Kit Demirdelen
Kit’s experience spans the art and therapy world. She previously worked at the Art Access program at the Queens Museum of Art, the Hudson River Museum and in many independent art programs as a teacher, mentor and art therapist. Additionally, she serves on the board of trustees of RiverArts and the Hastings Village Arts Commission. As an artist, she works in fiber and ceramics and has shown her work in group and individual shows throughout the northeast.

This class is taught by Kit Demirdelen, a teaching artist and art therapist in the lower Hudson Valley. She has designed projects for multi-age groups that are accessible to anyone. This is not a technique-instruction class, but an opportunity for children with disabilities to come together in a studio environment to enjoy, create, and get in the flow of art-making. We will use a combination of traditional and non-traditional art materials to create projects that are fun to make and to be proud of.

Fall Fun with Wild Art and Play! The colors, textures, and transitions of Autumn will be our sensory-rich focus. We’ll play with late-blooming flowers, changing leaves, and a variety of local seed pods and then let the season’s offerings inspire our process-oriented art-making. We will draw, paint, and make collages with both store-bought and handmade art materials. This class combines four things that children love; being outdoors, examining nature, experimenting with art materials, and playing with friends.
Wild Play was founded by Melissa Lohman-Wild, an early childhood with an interest in nature-connected exploration, creative communication, and intergenerational collaboration. Before pivoting to working with children, she was a teaching artist in documentary production, training New York City teens to produce stories about themselves and their communities and worked in film and television production. She has taught in preschools, elementary schools, studio schools, summer camps, community centers, libraries, playgrounds, backyards, and in the woods.
