Pride Academy

Pride Academy (ages 14–18)

Wednesdays, January 25–March 30, 4:30–6:00 pm

Pride Academy was developed by WJCS (Westchester Jewish Community Service) Center Lane to support youth who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and more (LGBTQ+). By utilizing the curriculum developed, we here at Shames are aiming to provide a safe space for these young individuals. Throughout our time together, we aim for participants to create a community with other LGBTQ+ peers and LGBTQ+ allied and affirming adults, connect with LGBTQ+ culture and history, and feel comfortable contributing to the world around them by stepping into leadership and using their voices.

About WJCS Center Lane

WJCS Center Lane was founded in 1995 and was the first and is still the only program and educational center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ+) youth, ages 13-21, in Westchester county.

WJCS Center Lane provides affirming programming, facilitated by supportive adult experts, in welcoming spaces where youth can feel safe sharing difficult experiences, discussing important issues, developing friendships, problem-solving with other youth and adult mentors, and engaging as leaders. Through in-person and virtual programming, youth gain a sense of community surrounded by peers and adults who understand them and who can help them understand themselves.
