Important: The café will have a limited menu on Friday, 1/23. Premade sandwiches, soup, smoothies, and coffee will be served. Additionally, due to the impending storm, we have decided to postpone this Sunday’s “Stories and Songs of the 1960s” concert at The Ark. The concert will now be held on 3/22/26.

Why do some speeches make a difference and last forever while others backfire or are forgotten? This 4-session series explores the answers as we explore the content and context of powerful speeches by influential Americans including Abraham Lincoln, John F. Kennedy, Jr., Martin Luther King, Jr, Barry Goldwater, Ronald Reagan, Walter Mondale, Mario Cuomo, and more. At home readings provide background on the speakers and the particular challenges they faced when making their speeches, as well as what happened after the speeches to shape their legacy. Throughout, we’ll unlock the secrets of research, ghostwriting, and rhetorical technique that produced some of the most moving spoken words in our history.
