Meet Asaf, our Shinshin

asaf

Hi, I’m Asaf Baider. I’m 17 years old. I live in Netiv HaShara, a small community where everyone knows each other, and it really feels like one big family. Life has been tough lately after the October 7 attacks on our moshav. It was a life-changing event for me and everyone in our community. It has been incredibly challenging, but it has also shaped who I am today.

I have two younger brothers, Yahnay and Hillel, who keep things lively at home, and we have a sweet dog named Kiyoti. My dad, Eran, grows raspberries and strawberries in the moshav and my mom, Maya, is a midwife.

Also I’m super involved in a youth movement called “HaTnua HaHadasha.” I’ve been a a youth instructor for fifth and sixth graders for two years, and this year, I started mentoring new youth instructors. But with the war and our moshav being evacuated, my role has changed. Now, I’m trying to bring back the movement’s activities in the hotel or where ever where we’re staying.

Music is a huge part of my life. I love going to concerts, hanging out with my friends, and spending time outdoors. I’m also really into collecting records – my collection is one of my proudest achievements.

I’m really excited about joining the community in Westchester for shlichut. I think it will be an amazing experience and a chance for me to grow. I also feel like I have a lot to share about being Israeli, living near the Gaza envelope, and my experience.

I’m looking forward to what the future holds, especially being able to contribute to my new community and I really can’t wait for this year to start.
