Almost Home: Health Specialist

Almost Home is a welcoming and engaging afterschool program for children in Kindergarten through 4th grade from the Tarrytown and Irvington school districts. Our program provides a caring environment where kids can participate in a mix of classroom activities and gym time, ensuring a fun and enriching experience after the school day.

Do you have a warm, calm presence and a passion for working with children? Almost Home, our vibrant afterschool program for K–5th grade students, is seeking a compassionate and responsible Health Specialist to join our team.

Position Overview: The Health Specialist acts as our program’s on-site wellness lead—similar to a camp nurse—providing basic care and assessment for children who are feeling unwell or need minor first aid (band-aids, ice packs, etc.). This role also includes light administrative support and professional communication with parents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Respond to daily health-related needs of children in the program
  • Provide basic first aid and monitor children feeling unwell
  • Supervise any child waiting for early pick-up due to illness or injury
  • Communicate professionally with families about health concerns
  • Document all health visits in the medical log accurately and confidentially
  • Support the site director with small administrative tasks as needed

What We’re Looking For:

  • Someone nurturing, patient, and great with kids
  • Strong communication skills with both children and adults
  • Minimum of current CPR/First Aid and RTE (Responding to Emergencies) Certification (Training can be provided for the right candidate)
  • Ability to follow health and safety protocols and maintain confidentiality
  • Dependable and organized, with the ability to multitask

Additional Info:

  • Must be available for occasional early program days based on school calendar
  • Program does not operate during school vacations or holidays
  • This is a part-time position perfect for educators, caregivers, or anyone with youth experience and an interest in health/wellness

Location: Shames JCC on the Hudson, Tarrytown, NY
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:30–5:30 PM
Program Dates: August 25, 2025 – June 26, 2026
