The postwar system of relatively free world trade was advanced by the US and global trade deals. From 1990 to around 2008, trade accelerated and fueled rapid economic growth and prosperity around the world, lifting millions out of poverty. But by 2018, trade policy reversed and many countries began imposing tariffs. This has led to new patterns of trade and politicization of trade policy. Join us to discuss the implications for the US and the rest of the world.
