Commemorating 9/11 and Prelude to Rosh Hashanah
As we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11 on the same day that Rosh Hashanah begins, we’ll reflect on remembrance, renewal, and our responsibility to one another. The JCC’s senior director of marketing & communications, Alison Koch, a former member of the exhibitions team at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and the daughter of a retired FDNY Battalion Chief, will share reflections on how we remember September 11—personally, publicly, and as a community.
We’ll explore how memorials, stories, and rituals shape the way we carry history forward while connecting to our New Year, 5787. What is our communal responsibility to one another? What does it mean to remember/לִזְכּוֹר?
This program is part of our Challah and Conversation series, where Rabbi Lisa Izes, Shames JCC senior director of Jewish engagement, leads interactive, guided conversations about life that weave together spirituality and a Jewish lens. Topics range from the human experience, holidays, Israel, and current events—all grounded in thoughtful discussion and a focus on our shared humanity.
