There is much talk today about the risks of theocracy, including here in the US, as conservative politics gathers force. But how real is the threat of theocracy? While over 80 countries have state religions, true theocracies—where a deity is the supreme ruler and its human agents run the government–are rare and concentrated mainly in the Middle East. Join us as we discuss historical theocracies, the pros and cons of modern-day theocracies, and the countries seemingly at risk of becoming theocracies—including the US.
