Purim is often relegated with all of the elements that kids love: costumes, carnivals, candy, permission to make lots of noise, and a story that could have come straight from Disney. Despite the way many of us celebrate, the scroll of Esther is definitely not a children’s book. Perhaps most importantly for our day, it is the earliest record of the type of antisemitism we face in the diaspora. Let’s discuss this real story of Purim and its lessons for how we might respond.
