The Art of Returning: Ancient Wisdom for Modern Lives

During the High Holy Days, Jewish tradition has us looking inward. The word teshuva, which we hear throughout this season, is often translated as “repentance,” though its deeper meaning is return. Drawing on timeless Jewish texts and the wisdom we’ve gained through our own lives, we’ll explore and ask what it means to return to our best selves and repair what needs healing.

This program is part of our Challah and Conversation series, where Rabbi Lisa Izes, Shames JCC senior director of Jewish engagement, leads interactive, guided conversations about life that weave together spirituality and a Jewish lens. Topics range from the human experience, holidays, Israel, and current events—all grounded in thoughtful discussion and a focus on our shared humanity.
