The JCC’s Babysitting Certification & Internship Program is for young people ages 11 – 16 years old, offering training and mentorship for all levels of babysitting experience. The program begins with a 6.5-hour American Red Cross training that provides youth planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly care for children and infants.
Participants will learn:
- Leadership skills; how to develop a babysitting business; how to keep themselves and others safe (including basic child care and basic first aid skills); and strategies for encouraging and maintaining calm and appropriate behaviors when on the job.
- Participants who successfully complete this training will earn their American Red Cross Babysitting Certification and will be eligible for serving up to 10 internship hours in the JCC’s Kidspace drop-in childcare center.
- There they will engage with children ages 6 months to 8, developing their skills and receiving mentorship and feedback from the Kidspace director and staff. Successful interns will receive a letter of reference and may be referred to JCC families looking for trained and certified babysitters.
