Shames JCC COVID-19 Policies & Procedures

We are doing our part to help you stay healthy.
Please help take care of one another and do your part.

Policies 

The Shames JCC has a no-tolerance policy with regard to following our COVID policies and procedures. Any participant who does not adhere will be asked to leave the JCC campus immediately, and not return until the pandemic is fully resolved.

General Policies 

If you have been diagnosed with, or suspect that you have been exposed to, COVID-19, and have attended the JCC campus in the last 14 days, please contact the Shames JCC’s “COVID Point of Contact” immediately: Eric Hammermeister at ehammermeister@shamesjcc.org or 914-366-7898 ext. 1140.

To ensure the health and safety of our staff and participants, the Shames JCC requires that you:

  • Complete the LiveSafe health screening questionnaire BEFORE EACH VISIT to the Shames JCC campus
  • Successfully pass the no-touch temperature check at the Health Screening station, located at the end of our driveway
  • If you do not pass the health screening, you must not attend  the Shames JCC campus.
  • Wear a mask over your nose and mouth while on the Shames JCC campus unless otherwise instructed to do so
    Exceptions:

    • Swimmers & Active Duty Lifeguards (DOH does not allow lifeguards to wear masks while on duty)
    • If an instructor states that you may remove your mask for a specific activity, after ensuring you are at least 6’ away from others
  • Maintain at least 6 feet distance from every person who does not live in your household
  • Wash your hands frequently or use the hand sanitizing stations located throughout the JCC campus
  • Stay home if you are sick or have been exposed to COVID-19 in the last 14 days
  • If you have a confirmed case of Covid-19, you will not be permitted on the Shames JCC campus until the following conditions have ALL been met:
    • You are symptom free for 72 hours (without medication)
    • It has been at least 14 days since exposure to COVID-19
    • You have written clearance from a health care provider to return to the Shames JCC
  • Escort all minors (under 18) to and from Activity Areas
  • If you are unable to honor your reservation, please contact the JCC at info@shamesjcc.org at least 24 hours in advance to cancel. Participants who cancel a reservation with less than 24 hours notice and/or who are “no-shows” more than once, will incur a $5 administration fee per instance, unless Health Screening prevented the individual’s participation.

Outdoor Fitness

  • All Group Ex classes and PT sessions are held outside either under a canopy or in a designated portion of our parking lot
  • Classes must be limited to 12 participants (Cycle: 10 participants)
  • Participants must be positioned at least 6′ apart from one another  (Cycle: 12′ apart)
  • Masks are required by instructors at all times
  • Masks are required by personal training clients at all times
  • Group Ex participants must wear masks prior to, and immediately after, all activities
  • Participants must provide their own mats, towels, and water bottles

Mini Camps & Clinics

  • Mini Camps & Clinics are held outdoors on the JCC’s blacktop and grass areas, or under a large canopy, depending on the activity.
  • Participation must be limited to ensure at least 6′ distance between campers
  • Masks are required by staff, parents and guardians at all times
  • Campers must wear masks prior to, and immediately after, all activities and as the activity instructor may direct as-needed.
  • Campers must supply their own water bottles, mats, sunscreen, and snacks as appropriate

Aquatics
In order to help keep swimmers and staff healthy and do our part to protect against COVID-19, we require that all Aquatics Center participant follow these policies and procedures:

  • Aquatic programs are currently limited to swimmers ages 18+ with the exception of private swim lessons
  • Masks may not be worn in the shower or in the pool; Masks are required prior to entering the shower/pool, and after leaving the pool/shower.
  • Swim caps are mandatory. Swim caps sold in the Aquatics Office.
  • Prior to entering the pools, all patrons are required to rinse off using the on-deck showers as mandated by the DOH.
  • The Program Pool may only be used for lap swimming or water running
  • The Training Pool may only be used for Self-led Aquatic Exercise
  • Only one reservation per person, per day for lap swimming
  • Only one person may swim in each lane. (Maximum of 5 swimmers in the Program Pool at once)
  • Only two people may exercise in the Training Pool (Maximum of 2 exercisers in the pool at once)
  • Participants may enroll in only one aquatics class per session
  • For the safety of our lifeguards, patrons are not permitted to cross the 6 foot social distance tape around the lifeguard stands. The Westchester County Department of Health (DOH) does not allow lifeguards to wear masks while on active duty. For their sake and yours, please do not approach guards unless necessary and maintain distance.
  • At the end of every reservation, lifeguards blow one long whistle blast (approx. 4-6 seconds).to signify that the swim session is over. Upon hearing the whistle, you must stop swimming and exit the pool immediately.
  • Swimmers must provide their own equipment– kickboards, pull buoys, flippers, etc.
    Private Swim Lessons:
  • For the health and safety of our participants and staff, swim instructors must maintain social distance and instruct from the pool deck.
  • Children who cannot swim 25 yards without aid or stopping must have an adult 18+ in the water with them. Instructors will advise the adult how to assist with the lesson.
  • Instructors may enter the water for demonstration purposes only, but must remain at least 6′ from participants.
  • Observers are not permitted on the pool deck once the lesson starts, but caregivers of children may drop off and pick-up 5-minutes before the lesson ends.
