The JCC Maccabi Games® are an Olympic-style sporting competition held each summer in North America and is the second largest organized sports program for Jewish teenagers in the world.

They have won the gold, the silver and the bronze. They come from Westchester, Long Island, Manhattan and New Jersey to form the Shames JCC Maccabi delegation which competes against other Jewish athletes from all over the United States and internationally. In this Olympic style sporting event, the Shames team fields Jewish boys and girls aged 13-16 years old who play basketball, soccer, hockey, swimming, tennis and volleyball.   There is also Maccabi Artsfest, for teens who enjoy theatre, dance, cooking, and visual arts.  The games serve a larger purpose than athletic competition; they promote teamwork, community involvement and pride in being Jewish. There’s also Junior Maccabi for 11-12 year olds and Mini- Maccabi for ages 9 and 10.

Maccabi summer games 2019 will be held in Atlanta and Detroit, Artsfest will be in Detroit and Junior Maccabi will be in Philadelphia. Recruiting begins in January.  For informational meetings and tryouts, contact Maccabi Director Steven Weisbrot at sweisbrot@shamesjcc.org or call 914-645-5978.
