Join us for our Inaugral Indoor Sprint Distance Triathlon!

Thursday, March 26, 2020

Anyone can do this triathlon! Unlike most triathlons where there is a set distance, in our triathlon, you swim, bike, and run as much as you want in the time allotted. This triathlon is meant to be fun—all levels and beginners are welcome! Adults (ages 16+) will swim for 15 minutes, bike for 20 minutes, and run for 20 minutes. Juniors (ages 8 – 15, divided by age: 8 –10, 11 – 12, 13 – 15) will swim for 5 minutes, bike for 10 minutes, and run for 10 minutes. In addition to the race, there will be a pre-race experience, a complimentary briefing, and lots of fun and goodies at the event

Junior* First Heat: 5:00 PM

*Kids will be separated into these age groups: 8 –10, 11 – 12, 13 – 15

Adult (ages 16+): First Heat: 6:10 PM

Basketball Elite Drop-in Tuesdays

Tuesdays, 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM – CLOSED
Ages 13 -18

Basketball Elite offers advance training, skills, drills and game play to help players continually progress and enjoy high-level basketball. Not only do we work on core skills—we also develop each player’s “basketball I.Q.” so that skills and strategy become embedded together. Participants will gain the tools and confidence to compete in organized basketball here at the JCC and beyond.

Basketball Private Lessons

Ages 5 and up
Skills coaching and training for individuals or small groups is ideal for serious players that want to hone in on specific areas of play.  Private coaching lessons can focus on ball handling, shooting form, accuracy, footwork, balance, post or perimeter scoring moves, defensive principles, strengthening, conditioning and rebounding. Private instruction can also help boost overall basketball IQ, confidence, aggressiveness, and mental toughness. Small group sessions incorporate team play.

  • 60 Minute Semi-Pivate (2-3 participants, must come as a group), Single: $100

JCC Maccabi Games and Arts Fest

Ages 13 – 16

The JCC Maccabi Games are an Olympic-style sporting competition held each summer in North America and are the second largest organized sports program for Jewish teenagers in the world.  Each year, athletes from Westchester and surrounding areas from the Shames JCC Maccabi delegation which competes against other Jewish athletes from all over the United States and beyond.  In this Olympic style sporting event, the Shames team fields Jewish boys and girls aged 13-16 years old who play basketball, soccer, ice hockey, swimming, tennis and volleyball. Our athletes have won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals.

Also, Maccabi Artsfest brings together teens who enjoy theater, dance, cooking and visual arts.  Artsfest participants compete in their area of choice.

Overall, the Maccabi Games & Artsfest serves a larger purpose than athletic competition; the events promote teamwork, community involvement and pride in being Jewish.

Maccabi 2020 summer games and Artsfest will be held in San Diego, CA from August 2 through August 7, and in Westchester, NY (Pace University campus) from August 9 through August 14.  For informational meetings and tryouts, please contact Maccabi Director Steven Weisbrot at sweisbrot@shamesjcc.org or 914-645-5978.

The perfect introduction to Fencing! Fencing is one of the fastest growing sports across the U.S. Learn the craft and skills of fencing through this introduction to the rules, technique and tactics of the sport. We will cover basic fundamentals of foot work, blade-work, strategy, and form. Improve balance, hand-eye coordination and self-esteem through skill drills, games and fencing bouts. Fees include equipment rental. Private lessons are also available; call for additional information.
