Youth Lounge

Students are trained in every aspect of staging a musical theatre production.  While rehearsing for the show, which will be performed for friends and family, students are encouraged to abandon their inhibitions as they learn voice, movement, acting technique, characterization, improvisation, mime, audition technique, and more!  In addition to scheduled classes, this program includes dates for dress rehearsal and performance which will be announced.

“Circus Arts – The Art of Achieving Extraordinary Feats” is brought to the Shames JCC by Westchester Circus Arts.  This exciting multi-disciplinary course covers all the amazing skills from ‘under the Big Top’ including aerial arts, wire-walking, acrobatics, unicycle, juggling, stilt-walking, and more. Each student is set on an individualized learning track that is designed to build skill and confidence. Students have options to specialize in their favorite skill sets as the session progresses.

“Aerial Arts – The Art of Defying Gravity” is brought to the Shames JCC by Westchester Circus Arts.  Our aerial arts curriculum covers a wide range of aerial apparatus including aerial silks, lyra, static trapeze, hammocks, ropes, and more.  This program builds versatile aerialists with solid technique, safety awareness and choreographic skill.

“Acrobatics – The Art of Tumbling” is brought to the Shames JCC by Westchester Circus Arts.  Similar to gymnastics, but non-competitive and artistically focused, acrobatics includes handstands, acro-balancing, tumbling, trampoline, human pyramids, and hand-to-hand partnering.

“Tight Wire” is brought to the Shames JCC by Westchester Circus Art. Safely learn the traditional art of wire-walking on our 2.5 foot high tight wire. Students build focus, balance, strength and creative movement. Students progress through skills including walking, kneeling, sitting, dancing and turns.

 

Contortion (Mixed level class) with Westchester Circus Arts

“Contortion” is brought to the Shames JCC by Westchester Circus Arts. An accelerated course focused on extended students’ flexibility and stamina to hold through poses and multiple movements with fluidity. It is highly recommended that contortion students also enroll in acrobatics. It is complementary training that will accelerate the student’s success.
