Gym-Mites is a great class for younger gymnasts. This co-ed class is designed to develop your child’s physical and social abilities through body movement and group participation. Your child will learn basic gymnastics skills using the balance beam, bars, floor, trampoline and basic tumbling skills.

This co-ed class is designed for beginner gymnasts. While building gymnastics skills that promote flexibility, strength, coordination and body awareness, we also build positive self-esteem. This is a non-competitive program that builds progressive skills in a relaxed, fun, yet challenging atmosphere. Activities include bars, tumbling, vault, balance beam and trampoline. Small class size enables us to meet each child on their individual level.

This co-ed class is designed for children ages 6 and up who have prior gymnastics experience. While focusing on more advanced skills, we continue to build positive self-esteem in a non-competitive environment. Activities include bars, tumbling, vault, balance beam and trampoline. This co-ed class is designed for those who want to focus only on tumbling skills. Proper execution of standing and running tumbling skills will be taught. Aerials, walkovers, front/back handsprings, and more, will all be possible to learn. Each student will learn at their own level. Perfect for the aspiring cheerleader or gymnast wanting to work on tumbling passes!

The Gymnastics program at the JCC is run by Mike Weyneth—known to his students as “Mr. Mike”, is a 35-year veteran of gymnastics. A pro member of USA Gymnastics throughout his career, Mr. Mike has coached numerous recreational gymnasts, as well as state, regional and national champions. At the Shames JCC, high-quality, instructional classes with Mr. Mike will inspire young athletes through the sport of gymnastics in a non-competitive, positive—yet challenging—atmosphere.
*These programs are eligible for Club J for an additional $525, which provides busing from the Irvington and Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow School Districts for grades k–6 and childcare before and after the program up until 6:00 pm.
