Camp Twelve Trails

June 28 - August 17, 2018

Day Camp for Children Entering Grades K – 10

Adam Benmoise, Director
Chris Selenow, Shames JCC Coordinator

For rates and registration, visit www.camptwelvetrails.org

Situated in the redesigned, expansive Henry Kaufmann Campgrounds in Pearl River, NY, Camp Twelve Trails engages kids and teens with every interest. From our American Red Cross swim program to rocketry, sports to cooking, and theater to high ropes, campers develop their passions and try new things.

In addition to traditional camp activities including swimming, camp sing-alongs, and Shabbat, campers choose from one of five different specialty “neighborhoods” where they participate in a variety of skill-building activities.

The Neighborhoods: Play, Create, Grow, Explore, and Discover – organize the vast array of activities into specialty areas, enabling campers to participate in activities that pique their interests, while encouraging them to explore new ones. Deep friendships evolve as they engage with others who share their interests, and campers begin to learn how to make positive confident choices.

Pioneers: Kindergarten – Grade 2

Campers travel together as a group and explore each of the neighborhoods throughout the summer.

Trailblazers: 3rd grade+

Campers choose a different neighborhood each week or stay in one for the summer.

• All campers swim twice daily including an instructional and recreational period.
• Kids choose what they want to do!
• Kids and teens can join us for the entire summer or attend week-to-week (with a two-week minimum). Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Camp Twelve Trails Teen Adventure, Grades 7 – 10

Teens take their camping experience to the next level through enhanced programs at camp, day trips and overnight trips off campus. Whether exploring the outdoors on white water rafting trips, working with local farmers to support farm to table projects, learning the tricks of the trade from successful athletes and actors, or traveling to fascinating destinations, teens experience the excitement of new opportunities and adventures with their peers.

Transportation to Camp Twelve Trails
Buses pick-up and drop-off at the Shames JCC in Tarrytown, NY and drive to the Henry Kaufmann campgrounds in Pearl River, NY each day. Buses are staffed and campers have fun singing songs and hanging out with camp friends.

Camp Twelve Trails is a joint venture between the Shames JCC on the Hudson, The Riverdale YM-YWHA, and YM&YWHA of Washington Heights & Inwood.

Camp Twelve Trails Inclusion Programs

Steve Fondacaro, Director

Camp Twelve Trails Inclusion Programs were developed for campers with developmental and autism spectrum disorders. By adapting the programs for kids and teens offered throughout Camp Twelve Trails, we focus on providing campers with a caring, safe, and engaging environment. Our staff of trained educators and professionals are passionate about creating an inclusive environment that caters to the needs of each individual child.

Camper intake interviews are required to help determine which inclusion program is the best choice for their needs. Please contact Steve Fondacaro to arrange for your camper’s in-take interview.

Inclusion Program Level 1

Campers grades K – 10 participate in typical Camp Twelve Trails experiences with a 5:1 staffing ratio. Interventions and supports are targeted based on specific challenges, activities, and environments. Individualized support plans are developed during intake meetings by working with families and conducting trained staff assessments.

Inclusion Program Level 2

Campers are grouped by grades, in a small group, with a 2:1 staffing ratio, and integrated within a larger group model. Campers remain with the same staff throughout their summer experience.

Counselor-in-Training, Grades 10 – 11

Leadership development is an important component of the teen experience at Camp Twelve Trails.  Our counselor-in-training program is an inclusive program where teens of all abilities can develop leadership skills. Teens participate in community service initiatives, serve as role models for younger campers, and display the impact they can have on the environment and the world around them. They receive valuable tools and training through workshops and first-hand experience under the guidance and support of professional camp staff. Amidst a community that both supports and challenges them, and that understands the power of the peer network experience, Camp Twelve Trails helps teens develop the confidence and skills they need to achieve success at camp and beyond!
