Director of Youth and Teen Engagement

Director of Youth and Teen Engagement

 

The Director of Youth and Teen Engagement is a member of the JCC professional staff and partners with leaders across all areas of the JCC to bring their vision of the department to life.  Primarily, the Director of Youth and Teen Engagement is responsible for the JCC’s Almost Home program which provides after-care for school-age children.  In this capacity, the Director oversees and manages the JCC’s safe, caring, engaging, and professionally supervised after-school program, offering age-appropriate activities in an educational, recreational, and social setting.  This position works within the framework of the total agency and includes the supervision of youth, teens, and staff. This is a full-time position with days and hours based on the program schedule. Medical, Vacation, Sick, and Holiday Benefits available after 90 days.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential responsibilities include but are not limited to the following that are listed below. While we strive to maintain clarity around job expectations, work activities may be subject to change at any time, in accordance with organizational needs. All JCC staff are expected to support a welcoming and positive environment for program participants and their caregivers, as well as members, visitors and colleagues

Almost Home Program Responsibility

  • Hiring and supervising staff, including coordination of relevant licensing materials and procedures, as well as maintenance of required records
  • Managing participant registrations including, without limitation, review and evaluation of health forms and immunization records
  • Budget accountability
  • Planning, developing, overseeing and/or participating in educational and/or play activities with children (including, without limitation, special events such as holiday or end-of-year celebrations)
  • Performing routine safety checks and ensuring a safe program environment at all times
  • Planning and ensuring delivery of staff training
  • Fostering communication between schools, the community and the JCC
  • Regular, as well as ad-hoc, communication with caregivers of program participants
  • Regular, as  well as ad-hoc, communication with program staff
  • Providing referrals for support services to parents, as needed
  • Other duties, as may be assigned

 

Youth Enrichment Responsibility

  • Plan, schedule, promote and staff youth enrichment programs, activities, and events
  • Coordinate with specialists (e.g., outside vendors) regarding youth program opportunities
  • Plan, schedule, promote and staff full-day youth programs for children to attend during school holidays / breaks
  • Budget accountability
  • Update and manage programs in membership and program management system
  • Other duties, as may be assigned

 

Teen Engagement Responsibility

  • Maintain and cultivate relationships with teen-oriented organizations
  • Create and manage JCC teen volunteer opportunities
  • Plan and implement periodic community service opportunities/programs
  • Budget Accountability
  • Coordinate with leaders of JCC camp programs for teens
  • Other duties, as may be assigned

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Elementary or Pre-school Education and 5+ years of experience in a related field.

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

A team player, with the ability and willingness to accept management direction, and to interact with others, inclusive of program participants and their parents/caregivers, members and visitors, in a friendly, engaging and consummately professional manner

A strong track record of consistently providing excellence in childcare service

Supervisory/management experience

CPR, AED & First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain)

Strong organizational and record-keeping skills

Strong conflict resolution skills

Punctuality and reliability

Adaptable and flexible management style

Comfort and ability to supervise and manage others of varying ages and abilities

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Computer savvy

Upon acceptance of employment, ability and willingness to undergo and pass all background and other checks required under law, such as OCFS, SEL, SCR checks, TB screen, etc.
