SUMMARY:Challah and Conversation: "Bastille Day and Jewish Identity"
DESCRIPTION:July 14\, 1789 marked a pivotal moment in the journey of the French people towards independence. While the theme is often celebrated through the music of Les Miserables)\, I am curious about how the Jews of France fit into that journey. Just wait until you see what the Jews of that era had to say about being a Frenchman and a Jew at the same time! Trust me\, their conversations are relevant for us today in 2025 America. \nIn the Challah and Conversation series\, Rabbi Ron Symons\, Shames JCC Sr. Director of Jewish Engagement\, leads interactive guided conversations about life that weave the world around us with general spirituality through Jewish and other  lenses. We begin our time together by lighting candles and end with a little grape juice and challah… all in a very inclusive way. Neighbors of all backgrounds are welcome. These are on the 2nd\, 3rd\, 4th\, and 5th Fridays of each month.

SUMMARY:92NY Live Roundable: The Constitution: Separating Fact from Fiction
DESCRIPTION:FREE for members & non-members \nToday the public square is alive with politically charged debates about our Constitution: Does the Establishment Clause mandate the separation of church and state? What do the impeachment clauses really mean? And what would the founders think about presidential power today? \nThis virtual lecture by university professor and author Andrew Porwancher rescues the Constitution from its frozen amber and places it back in its historical moment to help us understanding it’s meaning. By returning to the founding generation\, we find that many hidden truths are buried within the Constitution and that many enduring myths continue to shroud our understanding of its text. We’ll follow the evidence where it leads and uncover the real origins of our constitutional democracy. \nAbout the presenter: Andrew Porwancher is a professor of history at Arizona State University. His fifth book is “American Maccabee: Theodore Roosevelt and the Jews” (Princeton University Press\, 2025). Porwancher previously served as the May Fellow at Harvard\, the Horne Fellow at Oxford\, and the Garwood Fellow at Princeton. His writing has appeared in the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal. \n

SUMMARY:92NY Live presents "Malcolm Gladwell in Conversation with Angus Fletcher: Primal Intelligence"
DESCRIPTION:FREE for members & non-members \nJoin Malcolm Gladwell\, bestselling author of The Tipping Point and Blink\, for a visionary conversation with Angus Fletcher about the hidden roots and untapped potential of human intelligence as described in his new book\, Primal Intelligence: You Are Smarter Than You Think You Know. \nHow are some people so much smarter than the rest of us? Where do visionaries like Abraham Lincoln\, Maya Angelou\, Nikola Tesla\, Marie Curie\, Albert Einstein\, Warren Buffett\, and William Shakespeare get their extraordinary intelligence? In 2021\, Angus Fletcher and a research team set out to find out the answer—and what they learned has enormous implications for human intelligence in the age of AI. Primal Intelligence\, as Fletcher calls it\, expands our definitions of intelligence to value intuition\, imagination\, and emotion as much as reason and logic. \nTested and adopted by the US Army\, Primal Intelligence training has allowed people to cope better with change and uncertainty\, experience less anger and anxiety\, and make better decisions. Fletcher’s new book is a guide to an expanded sense of what the human mind can do. \nIn this special conversation\, hear Gladwell and Fletcher discuss Fletcher’s groundbreaking research—and find out how this new neuroscientific approach to imagination\, emotion\, and common sense can tap into a new wellspring of genius\, help human beings gain an edge on AI\, and much more.
