Renard Lecture: “Shed the Veil of Indifference!” White Rose German Resistance

Sophie Scholl (German, 1921-1943) and her brother, Hans, organized a student protest movement against the Nazi regime. During this lecture, we will examine the political, cultural and religious influences on the White Rose resistance through Sophie’s letters and diaries. What inspired Sophie and six others to sacrifice their lives simply by using their personal freedoms?

Alexandra Lehmann, fluent in German and with a Fulbright Scholarship, began archival research in Munich for With You There Is Light, a historical novel based on the true story about Sophie Scholl and Fritz Hartnagel.  In 2017, she began representing the White Rose Foundation here in the United States. Alexandra has won a fellowship to the Wesleyan Writers’ Conference and has guest lectured on German Resistance history at St. Paul’s German Church in New York City, Mt. Holyoke and Sarah Lawrence Colleges and Fairfield and Western Connecticut State Universities.

Please note: Doors open at 9:30 am
