Smarts. Seconds. Support. Building the Community Together

Smarts. Seconds. Support. Building a vibrant community requires all three elements in order to ensure a high-level of innovation and the necessary resources to accomplish our mission for our members and the broader community. As a nonprofit agency committed to participatory leadership and ongoing engagement, we welcome all three types of contributions:

Smarts. Do you have expertise in a particular field or professional certification related to one of the many areas of our JCC program or operations? Working closely with our professional staff and Board of Governors, the Shames JCC sponsors a number of different committees, task forces and other volunteer leadership opportunities that help guide and improve the work of the Center. For more information about the various volunteer leadership structures, email committees@shamesjcc.org or reach out directly to Lisa Feinman, COO, to discuss your particular expertise.

Seconds. If you are not certain you have particular skills or expertise that make sense for the JCC but you are willing to share some time, we welcome volunteerism at the Shames JCC and know that your commitment of a few hours or more a week can go a long way to helping us accomplish our goals. In addition to our wonderful Engage volunteer program for Babyboomers and beyond, we are always looking for volunteers to assist with our Welcome Desk, administrative support, special events, and the like. For more information about volunteerism and volunteer training, email volunteer@shamesjcc.org or contact Lauren Morrison, CPO.

Support. Almost twenty percent of the Shames JCC annual budget comes from our generous financial supporters, whether making a $36 dollar contribution in honor of a friend or a five-figure gift to our annual campaign. These essential dollars help enhance our program, allow us to provide support for children and families with more limited means, and allow the agency to plan for future growth. A gift to the Shames JCC on the Hudson is a vote of confidence in our work and a strong public statement that our work is essential to you, our members and our community.

For your convenience, you can now make your donation online through our secure network. Please, consider one of the many ways you can make a tax-deductible gift to the Shames JCC on the Hudson, a true community resource. Your gift will ensure a healthy and vibrant JCC for generations to come.

Shames JCC on the Hudson Capital Campaign. While we are quite excited by the opening of the new facility and the success of Phase One of our Capital Campaign, we still have a lot more to do in order to complete our plans for the future:

  • Phase One: In addition to a number of exciting naming opportunities, Phase One still includes finishing our Youth Lounge, art and design for the building, additional improvements to the facility to better meet the needs of our members, and connecting the new facility with our legacy building.
  • Phase Two: The second phase of the build-out of the new facility includes the construction of the Grodetsky Auditorium, a state-of-the art theater and multi-purpose space to host dynamic cultural and performances experiences, the music center and instrumental suites, a cafe and art gallery complex, and administrative offices and the Board room.
  • Phase Three: After over a quarter century of use, the legacy building will be upgraded to better serve the educational needs of the Shames JCC community. Significant improvements to classrooms, the addition of new learning space for children, youth and adults, and a brand new sensory gym will turn our traditional home into a vibrant  epicenter enter for engagement and learning. In this final phase, we will also set aside resources for scholarships and the long-term resource needs to keep our facility in top shape for generations to come.
